This photograph, which has been retouched to remove distinguishing features, was kindly sent to me by the patient. She wrote, "My experience with Dr. Pichet has been fantastic. My friend and I went to him in February 2005 for breast augmentation, as his price was very reasonable. The surgery went well and I stayed two nights in a clean, modern hospital and was looked after extremely well. I stayed in Bangkok for 9 days, so I could have a one-week postop check before flying back to the UK. During my check-up, Dr. Pichet was concerned because my right breast was swollen. I had been bitten seeveral times in that area by mosquitoes, so I initially put the swelling down to that, but I was slightly worried, too. After I returned home, I waited for several days for the swelling to subside. When it didn't, I visited my GP, who decided I needed the implant checked at my local NHS hospital. The doctors there examined me with ultrasound and blood tests and concluded I had somehow acquired an infection. I was admitted that day and the right implant was removed. I was devastated. I should point out my friend’s augmentation had gone perfectly and she is still delighted with the result.
"I asked the NHS doctors how this could have happened and they informed me that it was just bad luck. The surgery site and scar were otherwise normal and the implant had been introduced correctly. In other words, I could apportion no blame to Dr. Pichet whatsoever. I contacted Dr. Pichet to inform him what had happened. At this point, Dr. Pichet could have offered some commiseration and left me to it. After all, I was 6000 miles away and I hadn't paid a lot of money for the operation in the first instance. But Dr. Pichet immediately offered to replace the implant free of charge, as soon as my wound had healed. He also said he would provide another implant and cover all my expenses, including hotel, drugs, and travel within Thailand.
"As things turned out, it was 12 months later before I was able to return to
Thailand. Dr. Pichet had kept in touch and had repeated his offer. Eventually I
had a new implant inserted by Dr. Pichet, exactly a year after my first
operation. My implants had originally been inserted through the armpits, but the
NHS surgeon removed the infected implant from underneath the breast in the
front. She didn’t do a very neat job and she left the scar slightly higher than
expected. Because of this, Dr. Pichet decided to insert the replacement implant
from underneath the breast and managed to place it so that my scar is very
difficult to see. This time I have had no problems and I am very happy with the
result. Dr. Pichet honored his promise of completely free treatment. He paid my
hospital and hotel costs, including food, and provided free travel to and from
the airport. He could not have done more for me and I am very grateful. I
wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Pichet to anyone considering surgery in Thailand."
