Dr. William Futrell, December 2006

This photo was sent to me by the patient,
who was very unhappy with her result. The photo appears to be a scan of a
color print, which explains the poor image quality. On June 28, 2007, the
patient wrote: "Surgery was performed in Pittsburgh at Magee Women's
Hospital by Dr. William Futrell. I went through the Persad Center here in
Pittsburgh for all my guidance during transition, and Dr. Futrell was on
their list as being a qualified surgeon in the field. I have paid over
$23,000 out-of-pocket for a surgery with poor results. Ever since the December
surgery, I have been in constant pain. The left inner labia is almost the size
of a golf ball, which puts pressure on the urethra, making urinating correctly
[pretty] much impossible. The pain goes deep into the pelvic bone and I can only
sit or stand for a few hours a day. I was expecting to be able to return to work
within 3 months after surgery; 7 months have passed now, without any resolution.
When I first made Dr. Futrell aware that there was a problem, at my 1 month
follow-up appointment, his answer was to 'give it time to correct itself.' At
the 6 month appointment, Dr. Futrell admitted [that] corrective surgery is needed,
but he is unwilling to correct the complications without compensation from my
insurance company."
