For persons unable to see me in Seattle, I also offer telephone consultations. A telephone consultation can provide you with personalized information concerning transsexualism and gender identity issues.
All consultations with me are completely confidential. I will do my best to provide accurate information and useful counsel in a professional manner. Please note, however, that for legal purposes, a telephone consultation does not establish a doctor-patient relationship with me. Technically, I will provide you with medical education and counseling rather than medical advice. One reason for this limitation is that physicians in my state cannot practice medicine solely via electronic communications, especially across state or international borders. Nevertheless, I treat all communications with my telephone consultation clients as confidential, just as though we were in a conventional doctor-patient relationship.
In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of gender identity problems, we can also discuss issues such as employment, relationships, children, and sexuality. Although I am happy to help my clients work through any issues involving actual gender transition, I am not able to provide written recommendations for hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery on the basis of telephone contact alone.
Telephone consultations last 60 minutes and cost $100. All telephone consultations must be paid for in advance. If you wish to mail your payment, please send it to:

You can also pay for a telephone consultation with a major credit card using PayPal. Here is how that process works:
- Click on the PayPal button below to begin;
- Choose the number of 60 minute sessions you want to pay for;
- Authorize payment to me (alawrence (at) mindspring.com);
- If you wish, enter possible dates and times in the space provided (you can do this in a separate email, if you prefer);
- Complete the transaction.
- I will contact you by email, usually within 24-48 hours, to schedule or
confirm a consultation time.
If you schedule a telephone consultation using PayPal and don't receive a reply within 72 hours, please contact me at alawrence (at) mindspring.com
Please propose at least two possible dates and times for your consultation. You can do this by e-mailing me at alawrence (at) mindspring.com, or by calling my office at 206-323-7462. You can also include proposed times with your mailed payment or with your PayPal payment. I will contact you, by email when possible, to confirm a consultation time and provide the number for you to call. This will usually be my office number, but not always.
Please note the following consultation policies carefully:
- Consultation fees are not refundable.
- If you are unable to keep a scheduled consultation appointment, you must cancel by e-mail or by phone at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged for the time scheduled.
- If you need to reschedule a consultation after making an appointment, you may do so once. If you are then unable to keep your rescheduled consultation appointment, you will be charged for the time scheduled.
